The Heretic Award
About
What is a heretic?
Heresy is any belief or theory that is strongly at variance with established beliefs or customs. A heretic is someone who holds such a belief.
What is this award exactly?
It all begins with an idea. This new award is intended to celebrate and support thinking and doing that cuts against the grain and steps on toes. It is meant to find that special someone “worth the match.”
The Heretic Award will be awarded annually to that person or organisation who’s ideas no matter how unpalatable, offensive or embarrassing have the promise to push humanity forward despite itself.
The Prize?
A giant fire poker. You heard that right.
A solid piece of metal bestowed during a festive, likely fully flaming, gala dinner in your honor. Think Baked Alaska, Gundel Palacsinta, Crêpes Suzette, Feuerzangerbowle and a myriad of meats roasted on an open spit. If you’re a vegan or gluten- or lactose-intolerant we’ll work something out. Whatever it is, it will be delicious and also on fire.
Other amazing rewards beyond the honor of the thing may be on offer. We’re working on that part and will update as we get our act together. And, of course, there’ll be a victory lap on Death By Burning.
How to Apply
The answers to only four simple questions will ultimately determine the winner:
What’s your heresy?
Why does your heresy matter?
What’s your heresy accomplished so far?
What is your heresy’s potential effect locally and globally?
Heretics can be in any occupation, industry or walk of life. If you are overturning electrical contracting we want to hear from you; banking, same; genetics; philosophy; the culinary arts, you guessed it. Apply.
Applications open on May 30, 2024 and close on . February 17, 2025
